The Junior Fair Board (JFB) is a scholarship opportunity for Houston County students from 6th-12th grade. The program provides young adults the opportunity to learn about our fair and the fair industry. The Jr Fair Board will provide a youthful perspective and guidance to the Houston County Fair Board on how to engage the youth of Houston County to get involved in the fair.



Purpose

To develop young leaders through hands-on experience in fair operations, community

organization, and professional mentorship, preparing them for future civic responsibility.


Mission

To ensure the success of the Houston County Fair by providing enthusiastic volunteer

service, managing youth-focused events, and serving as ambassadors for the fair industry

within our community.


Responsibilities:

- Attend monthly Jr Fair Board meetings (dates to be determined)

- Run youth focused activities during the fair

- Organize and host at least 1 event on behalf of the Houston County Fair, outside of fair week

- Participate in at least 1 volunteer activity, in the community, as a representative of the fair, outside of fair week

- Actively recruit youth to participate in fair activities

- Maintain social media accounts for the Houston County Fair under the guidance of the Senior Advisors


Knowledge/Experience:

- Ability to plan, lead and participate in appropriate projects/activities

- Ability to work well with others

- Be reliable and dependable

- Exercise mature judgement and decision making

- Have a positive and helpful attitude

- Show enthusiasm when serving the community


Qualifications:

- Must be enrolled in school grades 6th -12th Grade

- Must reside in Houston County


Scholarships are not a guarantee to any participant on the JFB. This is an award that is earned based on each persons participation. Feedback gathered from other JFB members, advisors, and other Fair Board members will help determine the award earned. Awards can be between $100-$500. Any awarded scholarship must be redeemed within 4 years of the awarded person graduating from high school. The awarded scholarship will be paid out directly to the school or institution after successfully completing 1 semester with passing grades. Proof of passing grades must be provided along with information on where to payment information for scholarship will be made.
