DEMOLITION DERBY
Stan Betz, known as the "Derby Man", ran the Houston County Fair demolition derbies from 1973 through 1998, and received the "Friend of the Fair" award at the 1999 fair.
Stan passed away May 8, 2004.

Driver must be at least 16 years of age with a valid drivers license. Anyone under 18 will need to have a legal guardian sign a disclaimer. Helmet, eye protection and a working safety belt is required. Driver must not extend any body part outside the vehicle during the event.
Fire extinguisher required. Minimum 2 lb. BC rated.
All persons entering the pit area must sign a disclaimer form and have purchased an approved pit pass. Each person that enters the pit area understands that they are entering at their own risk and accepts total responsibility for any circumstances that may occur. No own under the age of 14 allowed in the pit area.
All glass, chrome and plastic trim, carpet, interior trim, rear seat, headliner, and other non-essential parts including receiver hitches must be removed before arriving at the track. Glass must be removed NOT broken inside the door. All airbags must be removed. All combustible materials must be removed from the inside of the car, except the front seat.
No plastic gas tanks except if in a metal box. Gas tanks must be securely fastened behind the front seat and covered. DO NOT use bungee straps. No factory gas tanks or cans.
Battery must be securely fastened and covered in the passenger side compartment to prevent spillage and splashing of battery acid.
No water tanks. Radiators in original place only.
Two driver protection bars may be installed. These bars, maximum 4" round pipe are to be welded into place. The first br is behind driver from a point on the door post immediately behind the driver to the door post immediately behind the passenger seating area. The second bar is to run through the dash. These bars cannot be welded to the frame in any place. Only to the door posts. Drivers door may be plated, no longer than 6" past the front and rear seams.
Bumpers must be of the same make of the vehicle (ex. GM to GM)and may be chained (no welding on chain and no wiring on bumper). Bumper mounts maybe welded. No additional bracing allowed including welding shock.
Trunk may be tucked and bolted but not bolted to the frame.
Hood must be fastened in 4 places. Angle iron may be welded to top of fender to make hinges (maximum 2").
Body mounts may be modified. Stock holes only. Washers or plates not to exceed 3 X 3. Bolts no longer than 1/2 ". No additional mounts.
No chaining or bolting of suspension. No welding or stuffing of shocks.
Rear end may be welded posi.
No reinforcing on frame of any kind. No seam welding. No filling of frame or anyother part of car.
All doors must be chained or wired shut. One single wrap.
Tranny coolers are allowed but must be securely fastened.
All vehicles must have an aircleaner and a 10" hole cut in the hood.
Must have a tent on hood of car for number. Minimum 18" wide and 15" high and visible from both sides.
One fire disqualifies you from the heat but you may come back for the consulation. Rollover disqualifies in heat and feature.
No hitting driver's door.
Being pushed out of derby area disqualifies you from the heat.
No torches in pits after the derby starts.
No alcoholic beverages allowed in the pits until after the derby.
Entry fee must be paid before inspection. If you DO NOT pass inspection you forfeit entry fee.
Officials may alter, vary change or omit any rules at derby time at their discretion. Their decision is final.
All cars must be in gate and inspected 1/2 hr before derby starts.
Compact car wheel base is 105" or less. Midsized car wheel base is 105 1/2" - 112".
Full sized pickups, 4 X 4 drive disconnected.
Same rules apply to all classes.
Entry fees. One car one driver one pit person $25. Each pit person after that is $20.
